SPECIAL ‘INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY’ & ‘WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH’ WALK:
FEMINISM, FAME & INFAMY: FROM MARY WOLLSTONECRAFT TO OCCUPY – HOW HACKNEY WOMEN HAVE SHAPED OUR WORLD
Sun 4th March, 2pm Stoke Newington Rail Stn N16 2hrs; ends near Dalston; £9 (£7 concs). Please book if you can!
Special version ending with a short tour of Mary Wollstonecraft’s church at Newington Green. Half proceeds will go to fundraising campaign for a statue of Wollstonecraft (see Mary on the Green).
Hear how Hackney has been home to rebels, radicals and revolutionaries for hundreds of years. From alternative universities and guerilla groups, the Salvation Army to Baader-Meinhof, see where Hackney women fought for everything from sexual equality and religious tolerance to music hall working conditions – and against everything from slavery to war.
Feel inspired as we follow in the footsteps of women who made history and changed the world. The tour includes lots of general history and covers some notable male figures but the focus is firmly on females. But the empowering message transcends gender (see pic below) and everybody’s welcome!
“I can see how the issues and history all ties together now – it’s like joining the dots.”
You say pls book – but not how! Would like to come on the Wollstonecraft walk on March 4th please
Hi Kate. On the About page there’s a phone number and email. Noted your comment though for the ‘navigability’ side of things.
Anyway you’re booked on. Very much look forward to your company on Sunday.
Best,
Simon
Thx, looking forward to it. For dimwits like me might be a good idea to add a ‘book here’ link. See you Sunday.
